| Be Aware...
A disgraceful court decision has been reached in California which
may have an impact on
your area if you live in the US. Older workers no longer have the
option of claiming age discrimination if they are terminated without cause.
The courts have now given business a
cause: budgetary considerations!! The court's ruling says that business
is justified in firing its older, more experienced, more expensive workers
if they can find a younger, cheaper worker
to do the job. All they have to do is claim "budgetary considerations".
I'm very serious. This has happened, and is on the law books in California.
Of course this decision is being appealed
to a higher court by every senior citizen's lobby there is. HOWEVER,
until the case is heard
by the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court, that new law stands.
California very often
leads the way in new and innovative laws across the country, and
there is a danger that this
type of discrimination may be picked up and put into place by other
states before a final
ruling is handed down. If you work, and if you, your family, or
your friends may be over
45, PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the initiatives placed on the ballots,
and to the new laws proposed by your own state legislatures. Don't let
this happen again!!
