I praise Spirit each day for the life
I have had. It's what made me who and what I am today the good and
the bad both within. As I said before, it was thier loss. And
yes I now have a woman who takes care of that child...me! That's
one of the best things that Spirit gave us, the ability to heal.
As I sit today, thinking of the season and
for all those things for which I am thankful my parents number among the
top of the list. It took me a lot of years to say and really KNOW
that they did their best for me, but they did. Was it what I wanted?
No, a resounding NO. Was it what I needed? Apparently or I
would not have been born to them...and I learned much. I learned
that each of us needs love in order to survive, I learned how NOT to treat
a child, and in learning that, I also learned how a child should be
treated. I learned, after many years,
forgiveness...one of life's hardest lessons. And along with that,
I learned to look for the good. Now, I give everyone the benefit
of the doubt...until someone shows me that they can't be trusted, I trust.
And after I have been betrayed, I forgive. Even when there is someone
who is just a jerk, I look into them and find at least one thing which
I can admire or respect then, when I have to deal with that person, I focus
on that one thing, that admirable quality and dealing with that person
becomes much easier.
Don't misunderstand, please. I abhor
child abuse, any abuser is reprehensible! Abuse, be it physical,
sexual, mental, or any form should not be tolerated! I have no patience
for abusers and feel only compassion for the abused. But for me it
could have been worse....yes, I was a statistic, a survivor of childhood
abuse, but I could have been a death statistic instead very easily.
I thank you for your love toward the child,
and all the children. Remember as the holiday season continues there
are children in each of our neighborhoods, towns, or cities that need our
help, not just a few dollars in a bell-ringer's pot, but our time and attention.
Be a mentor, a volunteer with a youth group, be aware and involved and
help a child. |
