From
the time we are very small, we learn to ask for things. When we are very
young, we ask our parents, siblings, relatives and good friends for all
those things we want, and even some that we actually need. As we get older,
and as our wants and needs become more complex, we pray for those things
we are certain we must have in order to survive and be happy.
In our yearning for enlightenment, encouragement, love, wisdom, happiness and all those things we must have in our life, we forget one very important thing. God/The Father/The Creator/Grandfather/Great Spirit/The Universal Mind/Spirit knows much more about us than we ever can, and knows exactly what we need in order to reach our goals and fulfill our destinies. Many times when we pray for things, we feel our prayers are not heard, and are certainly not answered. As humans, we forget that there is a power that knows exactly what we need for our growth and well-being much better than we ever could.
When we pray, and ask for things, we already have a preconceived idea of exactly what this "thing" is that we want. We have it perfectly pictured, and wait very impatiently for it to arrive in its pretty blue box with the pretty blue ribbon. We wait and we wait, and we begin to get impatient and upset that no one hears our prayers. We know everything about this answer that we're looking for, and even have our next step planned once we get the answer.
In the meantime, shortly after our prayer, a pesky little orange dragon shows up. He's everywhere: in our chair, in the bathroom sink, in the car seat, in our bed, in the microwave -- everywhere we turn that dragon is there. We shoo him away and shoo him away. We're very busy looking for our pretty blue box. We finally toss the little orange dragon into the garbage can and put the lid on tight. We HAVE to find the blue box. In all of our chasing the little dragon, never once did we pick him up. Never once did we offer him a kind and loving word. Never once did we look at him. Never once did we see the tiny envelope in his mouth clearly marked ANSWERS TO YOUR PRAYER.
As someone else said: When you narrow your vision to search for just one thing, you miss the wonders of all things. In asking for "things" and for help with life's problems, we must always keep our minds open and alert for all signals and possibilities. Many times we don't recognize the answer that's given to us because it just doesn't seem to fit the request. It doesn't make any sense. It may take some time for the true reason behind the answer to become known to us. Always remember, there is a reason whether we can see it at the time or not. Forget the pretty blue box. Concentrate on finding the little orange dragon. :)
Namaste. Julia
