The
rabbit is called by many names: bunny, rabbit, hare, jackrabbit, and many
others. There is scarcely a corner of the world where rabbits are
not found in one of their forms. They make soft, loving pets (if
you have only one!), and range in size from the very tiny to the large
jackrabbit that can run up to 45 miles an hour. Because they multiply
so rapidly, they become a threat to farmers' crops if they are not tightly
controlled. Rabbit breeding for food and fur is quite a lucrative
business in many places.
Rabbits in the wild are the favorite food of almost all predators. They are forever on the alert. Their ears are especially equipped for picking up unfriendly sounds. They have a wild-eyed look because each eye sees in a semi-circle. The two eyes together allow them to see in an almost perfect circle. In spite of all this warning equipment, the rabbit's behavior brings his enemy to him, and that is the message of rabbit. Fear.
When he senses danger, the rabbit's ears twitch, his eyes roll, his nose and whiskers quiver, and he may thump the earth with his back legs. If danger is very near, he begins to squeal and run. When only a few feet from a hiding place and safety, he will take off suddenly in an entirely different direction leaving himself in the open and totally exposed. If the predator had not noticed him before, they certainly can't miss him now! He has called attention to himself, and is at the mercy of the very thing he feared. Is this your behavior?
If you live in an area plagued by crime, what is your demeanor and body language? Criminals are expert at reading signals. Do you scurry along with your head down, clutching your purse or briefcase, or whatever you may be carrying? This is an invitation to be mugged, or just stopped and harassed, for you have sent the message that you have something of value and are afraid. Animals also sense fear, and otherwise peaceful animals may become aggressive if you send out a message of fear.
Above all, remember that thoughts are the things that create our reality. Only you can control these thoughts and the behaviors that reflect them. We must realize here that we are not speaking of being in actual, physical danger from situations we cannot control. We are speaking of the fear that boils in our minds, the fear we create, the fear that keeps us awake at night, the fear that preys on our insecurities and makes us break out in a cold sweat. We must realize what this type of fear is. It is an emotional response to the possibility of a thing which may happen in the future. Read that again. This subject is so destructive that an entire section of Innerspace is devoted to it in the Re-Creating You section. I urge you to read those writings, do the exercises, and put this out of your life. Only you have the power to free yourself from this type of fear. You deserve better.
