Lesson One - Our Personal Path

Each of us knows in our heart and in our spirit those things that ring true, that "feel" right to us. It is when we ignore the messages from our super-conscious mind that we make wrong decisions that lead to regrets.

Ever meet a stranger and have your alarm bells go off? Ever tell yourself that you're being silly - that you don't know the person so you must ignore that warning chill? Ever live to regret the day you did not pay attention to the alarm bell, and end up getting hurt, or swindled, or betrayed? Of course you have. We all have — and we swear "Never again!" — only to turn around and do it to ourselves one more time.

That is the point behind our first discussion here at Re-Creating You; having the courage to pay attention to our inner voice. Building a firm foundation of knowledge and experience gives support to our personal convictions, and that security leads to the courage to listen to our inner voice.

We are indeed fortunate to live in these times. Never before in the history of mankind has so much information been available on so many different subjects, in so many different forms. Of course the danger here is that we come upon many self-proclaimed experts who will lead you down their path, and will often ridicule you if you dare challenge their teachings or even ask a question.

I would urge you to build your own personal path, knowing at the outset that you will not be alone in your beliefs - whatever they may evolve into. This planet is covered with those who seek knowledge and inner awareness. Even if you decide that you like chocolate ice cream covered with olives and hot sauce, you will find others who will agree with you that it's wonderful. You will have found your "tribe". It's not for me, but if it works for you — Enjoy!

In your journey of discovery, explore every possible bit of information, but only explore it. If that book or lecture or tape sounds too far out for you, forget it. You have no obligation to try every single thing that is presented to you. You will burn up your energy thwanging around like a rubber band, and you will only be confused and discouraged about this thing called personal growth and awareness. Don't let anyone force feed you ANYTHING that does not feel right for you, or intimidate you into agreeing with something you just can't relate to.

Instead, when you do find a writing, or whatever, that stirs your interest make a little note of it. In fact, now would be a good time to start a new notebook or journal for our Re-Creating You sessions. It will give you a time frame to measure your changing attitudes - for they will change.

Keep your little notes together, and put those books or tapes or whatever in a special place. Keep reading and exploring. As you find more things of interest to you, do the same. When you have A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that validates something you have found, or that tweaks a memory of something you have read or made a note about, go back and get that bit of information out of safekeeping. Read it again, a little more thoroughly this time. If it still feels good to you, then start researching. If it's a book with a bibliography, start searching backward until you reach the source - the original teacher of the idea that has caught your fancy. You see, there is nothing new in this world. We are going through the discovery of ancient knowledge that was as valid in the times of Merlin and Socrates as it is today. It is only being repeated in language and terms that we can understand and relate to in today's society. It is said that the more the mind of man can process and absorb, the more will be revealed.

The greatest stumbling block we share in common to studying, learning, concentrating, comprehending and retaining new things is the ever-present "noise" of our lives. We have so much on our mind that it runs full speed 20 hours a day. There are so many demands on our time that we can only focus on any one thing for a very short period before our mind leaps to the next thing we should be doing. There is a way to break up this mental chatter, and control this leaping from thing to thing; from crises to crises; from demand to demand.

Jump over to the " Exercise" section for the first of our steps to mental control. This exercise is also excellent for children. It will help them to concentrate which will show a definite improvement in their school work, and in their attention span in general.

Don't forget: feel free to share your own experiences and thoughts, and to drop me a note about your reactions and opinions to our endeavors here. This is truly an inter-active effort, and your words are as important as mine.
