Meditation — Closing Thoughts

The purpose of the writings on meditation has been to help you to see that it's a simple thing that can have great benefits for you. There are hundreds of techniques; some very formal and structured, some very loose and casual. If you have serious interests in pursuing meditation to a more formal degree, there are many books, videos and audio tapes available to you, and almost every town has at least one meditation circle. I would encourage you to explore these, and "shop around" until you find exactly what is right for you. Keep in mind at all times that there is no right and wrong way, but what is right for you to bring you inner peace and calm.

Some people do very well with guided visualizations. If this is something that helps you, then by all means use this method. There are scores of guided visualization tapes on the market. I would offer one word of caution, however. Not every tape will be right for you. There may be something in the voice, or the tone of the voice, or the background sounds, or even the message itself, that causes you to be uneasy. This is a normal reaction as all people do not react the same way to every form of stimuli. I would encourage you to listen for a few minutes to a demonstration tape before you spend money on any guided visualization tool. If it just doesn't feel right, or something about it makes you uneasy.....Don't Buy It. Shop around. If you do buy one and it doesn't work for you.....Take It Back. Don't continue to use anything that makes you uncomfortable. When you meditate, you open yourself to the Universe and you have no way of knowing what soul memory may be upset by something on a tape. Don't try to figure it out; get another one.

If you don't have any luck finding a commercial tape on the market that works for you, ask a friend to make one for you. If you don't have anyone with a soothing voice that you know well and trust, and who follows your same beliefs, then make your own. Talk about your favorite fantasy, or a place you would like to visit, or an experience you would like to have. It would be fun to play with various ideas until you hit the perfect combinations......and you can change it any time you want.

Remember the key to successful meditation. Relax. Enjoy the experience. Don't "work" at it. Let the positive energy flow. DO IT YOUR WAY! You'll feel better.

Next on Re-Creating You, we'll explore the Grief Wheel: what sets our feet on that path, and where we most commonly get "stuck."
