How ridiculous! We all want success in our lives. Who would ever be afraid of success after they've worked so hard? You'd be surprised.
The fear of success comes from a number of deep-seated insecurities. In many cases, once again, it begins with being repeatedly told as a small child that it can't do something. It begins to believe this until it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. That child truly believes that it can't succeed at anything.
Children who are subjected to the emotional and psychological abuse of being told they can't do anything right; that they're worthless; that they're lazy; that they will never amount to anything — "I hope you find someone to marry that's rich and can take care of you because you're just a shiftless bum that will never amount to a thing." This child has been trained to believe they have no value, and are not deserving of success.
Then there is the other side of the coin. The child who has everything done for them. They have their every wish catered to. They never have to make a decision. They never have to take responsibility for anything. To succeed carries a terrible fear for these children. They would be totally responsible — not only for their own actions and decisions, but for those who depend upon them for a living. Success also carries a position of leadership where others value opinions, and initiative, and innovative thinking. If the child has never been allowed to think for itself, or to grow and stretch and become a leader, how can it possibly function as a successful adult?
What are the signs of someone who fears success? A new idea comes along that is exciting. It is greeted with enthusiasm and work on that idea goes forward full steam. Then, as it begins to take shape, things "come up" to delay further work. Careless and thoughtless mistakes are made. There is suddenly "no time" to give to the project. The enthusiam and energy is lost, and pretty soon that wonderful idea is put aside and forgotten. Not because it was not a good idea, but because the person was getting too close to succeeding with it! These are subtle signs of sabotage that we pull on ourselves, and there are many others because we have become quite skillful at avoiding success.
Are you the victim of any of the above? Have you created your own stumbling blocks to avoid success? Are you selling yourself short? There is a writing in the exercise section that you may want to print and keep near you. When you first read the words, they will be only that: words. Read them aloud over and over until you truly begin to understand the thoughts, and until those thoughts have personal meaning for you. When you find that personal meaning, you will find strength — and faith. Faith in yourself, and in the belief that you are not alone.
If you have difficulty with manifesting success and prosperity for yourself, take courage in knowing that you are not alone. We have a group which joins in meditation once a week, for 15 minutes, on Saturday nights. If you could benefit from the support of others of like-minds, and would like to share in the powerful energy of this group, read about its purpose at The Prosperity Circle. You would be most welcome.
